The electorate at
Sankubase-Nkurakan in the Atiwa constituency, have decided to
boycott Friday's polls due to the failure of successive governments
to provide them with electricity.
The residents arrived at this
decision for the reason that two high tension poles pass through
their community to nearby communities to supply them with power
whereas they have been left in darkness.
They told the Ghana News Agency
(GNA) that the New Patriotic Party (NPP) administration was the
first to give them the assurance that the area would be connected
to the national grid but failed to honour the promise.
According to the residents when the
National Democratic Congress (NDC) came to power they were assured
that since two high tension poles passed through the town to supply
electricity to nearby communities they would surely give power to
such communities such as Sankubase, Amon and Bamso.
They thought all that was needed was
a transformer for them to also enjoy power.
According to them all efforts to get
the NDC to fulfill its promises failed and the District Chief
Executive for the area was now telling them to exercise patience
till next year.
According to them “enough is enough”
and that they were fed up with vain promises.
They said there was therefore no
need to send a ballot box and voting materials on December 7 to the
community.
The people are mainly farmers who
produce cocoa, food crops, mainly plantain which are sent to Accra
and other marketing
centres.
Jacob Tei Aman, an elder of the community regretted
that politicians were mainly seen in the area during campaign
periods and forget the people thereafter.
