The National Democratic Congress (NDC) has held a press
conference Saturday morning to admonish the Electoral Commission
(EC) to rectify all problems that plagued Friday's voting at
various polling stations across the country.
Elvis Afriyie Ankrah, Deputy Campaign Coordinator for
President John Mahama, explained that these problems included
technical malfunctions of voter identity verification machines, a
failure to distribute electoral materials to polling stations on
time, as well as the failure of EC officials to report for duty on
time.
Earlier, reports from within the ranks of the NDC suggested
that President Mahama himself would
give an address at the press conference, but this was not the
case.
Afriyie Ankrah also urged all NDC supporters to remain calm
in spite of the frustrations they have endured in trying to cast
their votes and charged them to vote if they have not done so
already.
John Jinapor, the spokesman for President Mahama closed the
press conference by vehemently denying rumours that the president met with EC officials
overnight between Friday and Saturday, saying Mr Mahama is a “law
abiding citizen” dedicated to “due process”.
