The voting process has delayed in
majority of polling stations in the
Dome-Kwabenya Constituency on Friday, as officials of the Electoral
Commission delayed in delivering the election
materials.
As at 08 20 hours majority of the
polling stations the Ghana News Agency visited were yet to receive
any of the materials to start the voting process.
None of the about five polling
stations at the Kwabenya D/C Primary school, have started voting as
at 0825 hours as a result of the late arrival of the election
materials.
The story was not different at the
Christ Alone Chapel and the Faith Tabernacle Church Polling
Stations respectively, which are all near the Abuoma Junction area at Kwabenya.
At all the centers the GNA visited,
angry and desperate electorate expressed their disappointment at
the way the EC has handled the election process, resulting in such
delays.
Some explained that they had been
queuing since 0400 hours and
expressed the hope that the voting process will start soon for them
to go back to their duties.
There was however a heavy presence
of uniformed personnel of the Ghana Police Service, Prisons and the
Fire Service to maintain peace and order. The first ballot was cast
at 9.17 hours at the Comet Estates Polling Stations after materials
had delayed for about an hour.
The materials though arrived at
08.07 hours, and it took the Electoral Officer and his Assistants a
long time to sort out the various materials to start the
process.
The initially angry electorate
expressed their solidarity with the officials by clapping when the
process eventually began.
