After eight months of legal battle following a petition filed by
three leading members of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), against the
declaration of John Dramani Mahama as President by the Electoral
Commission (EC), some have strongly opined that the petition was a
‘waste’ of time and a drawback to the nation’s development.
But former National Youth Organizer of the NPP, Anthony Karbo, has
rubbished such assertions and describes the eight month long legal
battle as an ‘Electoral Education’ to all Ghanaians.
According to him, the party leadership is pleased irrespective of
the outcome of the verdict which did not favour them.
“All those saying its eight months wasted…that can’t be true; it
cannot be eight months wasted. It is eight months of legal
education…eight months of major reforms…eight months of auditing
the electoral commission of its inefficiency that has existed….over
the last two decades.
“…if anyone says it's eight months of wasted time, I (Karbo) will
debate anyone on that at any time,” he told Asempa FM.
He. however, noted that, the party leadership will re-strategize in
order to ensure they are voted back into power at the next polls
(2016).
Anthony Karbo’s comment comes after the Supreme Court on Thursday
dismissed the Election Petition initiated by the 2012 NPP
flagbearer (Nana Addo) and two others (Dr. Bawumia and Jake
Obetsebi Lamptey) challenging the legitimacy of President John
Mahama.
By a majority decision, the justices of the Supreme Court ruled
that Mr. John Dramani Mahama was validly elected in the 2012
elections.
