President John Dramani Mahama on Monday stated
that his victory in the just-ended general election was not for him
as the President of the republic or for only the members of the
National Democratic Congress.
He said, “The election has just ended and the victory is not
for John Mahama and the NDC government,
but for all the people of Ghana, since we need all hands on deck to
be able to govern the country peacefully and
smoothly”.
President John Mahama stated this when he
addressed members of the NDC in what was described as ‘Victory
Dance’ organized at the Kwame Nkrumah Circle to celebrate their
victory in the 2012 general election.
The programme attracted party members from all the suburbs of
the national capital amidst singing and dancing.
As a side attraction, musicians were also invited to spice up
the grounds to crown the victory that was received with thunderous
applause at all the corners of the country.
President John Mahama cautioned all party
supporters against engaging in excesses in their bid to celebrate
the victory in the general election.
“The issues at stake go beyond ethnic, religious and
geographical location, and the election should be used as the
turning point to tackle all those issues, rather than dwelling on
petty issues that will not help in the growth of the country,”
President Mahama added.
He commended all the stakeholders; national peace Council,
Electoral Commission, various political parties, the media and the
security agencies for playing their roles responsibly to ensure a
peaceful and successful election this year.
President John Mahama said having organized
six successful elections since 1992, it was a feat worth
celebrating and commended all Ghanaians and the Electoral
commission for conducting themselves professionally before, during
and after the election.
Mr Elvis Afriyie Ankrah said the success was chalked through
hard work and appealed to all supporters to remain united to
contribute their quota towards nation building.
