The Head of the Economic Community of West African State
(ECOWAS) observer mission in this year’s elections, Mr Olusegun Obassanjo has expressed
certainty that the outcome of the elections results is credible.
General Obasanjo who also has oversight responsibility for
the African Union Monitoring Team has therefore advised the closest
contenders not to go to court to contest the decision of the
Electoral Commission because the elections were held in a free,
fair and transparent atmosphere.
Speaking yesterday at a meeting with the President, Mr John
Dramani Mahama at his residence Mr Obasanjo who is the former
President of Nigeria commended both the opposition candidate and
the government for participating in a peaceful
exercise.
The ECOWAS and the AU, he pointed out is pleased to observe
that Ghana has again conducted a peaceful electoral exercise,
saying Senegal has also made Africa proud.
He nevertheless called on all the players not to engage in
any acts of violence in the name of refusing the results when it is
officially announced.
President Mahama, on his part, reaffirmed that the party he
leads will continue to abide by the rules and will respect whatever
results the Electoral Commissioner will declare.
He commended the ECOWAS and the AU monitoring team, stressing
that there could not have been a better head of the monitoring team
than General Obasanjo who he said has great experience in
elections.
The President pledged to make Ghana a country of eminent
nations to uphold the peace and security of it people at all
times.
